Wormholt Park Primary’s ecstatic boys and girls football teams took on Old Oak Primary last Friday in an intense clash at the Mayors Cup Tournament played at Ravenscourt Park.
With some unavoidable delays by the referees, both teams played a short 15-minute match each. The girls came away with a very respectable draw of 0-0 but were so close to scoring with multiple shots on target and a strike from Billie Mae that rattled the near post! Well, done Wormholt Girls.
The boys had an interesting game as well. With the time being shorter than it normally would be and Old Oak being taller than all of our boys, Wormholt had a mountain to climb and these lads climbed like never before! With a freekick a few meters from the half way line, Old Oak lined up ready to shoot. Wormholts’ defense was just getting organized when the shot was taken. An unlucky deflection off one of our defenders put Old Oak up, 1-0, at 7 mins played but our boys weren’t giving up yet. With another striker subbed on, Wormholt was hungry for an equalizer. With a inch perfect goal kick from Harry and plenty of one-twos between our boys, the ball landed comfortably into the feet of Admir who laced a shot into the bottom corner of the goal to bring the game level at 1-1. Well done Wormholt Boys!
Our Man of the Match goes to Admir – for bringing us level and still hunting for a second goal right to the final whistle – Saviour!
Our Woman of the Match goes to Hala – for being an absolute machine, she chased down every single ball and was involved in every section of build up play- stunning effort!
