A Buddhist monk, Reverend Dr Upananda Thero from London Buddhist Vihara was invited to talk about Buddhism on the 4th of February 2025. There were two different assemblies based on the topics taught in RE.
In KS1 and Year 3 assembly, children got an opportunity to learn about Buddha, what Buddhists practise and the life of a monk. Children asked many questions about various things: celebrations, holy book and the Triple Gem were among them. They also had the opportunity to see the real holy book, Tripitaka that is made of palm leaves.
KS2 assembly was mainly based on the three topics Karma, Dukkha and the Noble Eightfold Path. Children were able to share their opinion on the above topics and widen their knowledge by discussing them further with the monk.
During both assemblies, children did Mindfulness Meditation for a few minutes under the guidance of the monk. Children experienced the real act of meditation by doing it in real life. Some children said that they were very relaxed after it.
