PE

“What you put into it, is what you get out of it.” – Mo Farah

Intent

Our intent at Wormholt Park Primary School is to ensure that Physical Education (PE) is an integral part of the curriculum. It enables our children to develop a range of physical skills whilst also benefiting their mental health and wellbeing. We give children the experience of various sporting activities; participating at different levels and abilities both in, and outside school.

Implementation

We work collaboratively with specialist instructors to ensure the children receive the best physical education. Our school also offers a large number of after-school activities, which are run by professional coaches, allowing our children to access the very best of athletic support and mentoring.

Pupils also have the chance to represent the school in a range of competitive, sporting activities including Mayor’s Cup, London Youth Games, Sports hall Athletics and EYFS/Key Stage 1 & 2 Sports Days. We also arrange different workshops such as Yoga and Mindfulness for the children to gain new experiences. Through these enhanced learning experiences, interest and enthusiasm are cultivated.

Impact

Our PE curriculum is progressive and allows children to develop fundamental skills and apply them to a variety of sports and activities. All children are provided with the necessary skills and given opportunities to demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best. Regular verbal feedback is given within lessons to praise and ensure children apply the correct technique. Feedback also helps children to identify strengths and weaknesses in their own learning as well as their peers. Children develop a wider range of subject specific vocabulary. Children understand the importance of physical activity, sport and PE, motivating them to become confident, resilient and disciplined. We aim for all pupils to leave school with the skills to competently swim at least 25m and have the skills to self-rescue in the water, which are key life skills.
