Arts Council

To celebrate and advocate the Creative Arts in our school, 8 children from Year 6 are a part of our school’s Arts Council. They meet up at least once a month with our Arts Lead Mrs Payne, and a part of their role is to help run events, develop their creative arts skills, and have a say in the way the Creative Arts is taught at Wormholt Park.

Wormholt Park’s First Art Week and Second Art Gallery

A huge push during our 2023-24 school year was to run an arts week the whole school took part in! The Arts Council met with the head to pitch the idea and everyone got on board with learning about famous artists during Sky Arts Week 18th-21st June 2024. This week ended with our second ever Art Gallery event and we had even more parents attend than before!

Wormholt Park’s First Art Exhibit

Part of our Arts Council’s aims during 2022-23 was to run more events based on the arts, which resulted in an End of Year Art Exhibition. The Arts Council chose the theme, pitched the idea to the head teacher, helped organise a bake sale to raise money for art prizes, put up the work and then finally judged it. It was an amazing event and one we’ll be repeating in the future!

Wormholt Park’s Half Termly Art Competitions

Our Arts Council really wanted to run events for our school and so we have begun to do half-termly art competitions. They came up with lots of different themes and each half term children in our school are encouraged to create art based on one of these themes in their free time at home or during Thursday lunchtimes in the art studio. At the end of the half term, three winners and three runners-ups are chosen by the Arts Council and these children get a small prize and their work shown off on display.

Wormholt Park’s Arts Council Badges

Wormholt Park’s first ever Arts Council has begun this year and their first action as a group has been to decide on a badge that shows the rest of the school that they are the pupils to talk to about anything to do with the Creative Arts. First, they worked on individual ideas and then voted on two of the council’s ideas. This was then merged together, digitised and made into special Arts Council badges by Mrs Payne.

Art Resources for home

At the end of the previous school year, all classes were asked to send any pencils, rubbers or colouring pencils they would not be using in the new school year. As their second job, the WPAC were asked to help organise, sharpen and prepare these resources for any child in our school to be able to take home for free if they needed them. These are available to any child that asks so that they can continue their creative endeavours at home!
