Artsmark

We are pleased to announce that Wormholt Park Primary School has a silver Artsmark award as of October 2024!

For the last few years Wormholt Park has been working hard at achieving an Artsmark award to show our dedication to teaching the arts in our school, as we’ve been awarded a Silver award for our hard work and dedication!

In feedback from the Arts Council England, we were told:

Wormholt Park Primary School has made impressive use of its first Artsmark journey to develop the place of the arts within children’s learning and personal development….

…What is clear is that you are finding that children are showing greater creativity and experimentation in their work and that art skills are beginning to influence other areas of the curriculum, particularly creative writing. It will be exciting to see and to record the measurable effects of this as you embed your creative pedagogy. Your Art, led by your Art specialist, has grown in strength. You have expanded pupils’ cultural capital through visits to the Lyric Theatre, the Peacock Theatre and art galleries…

…Your very successful pupil Arts Council has organised competitions and events and your Arts Week has arisen from your response to pupil voice. Their energy was harnessed to create an Art Gallery…

…You are impressively aware of the value of the arts to children’s wellbeing and the children themselves recognise and value the calming and strengthening effects of the arts. You have laid very strong foundations in your engagement of Children and Young People and in your supportive approach to staff development through CPD that is bringing the arts and creativity to the centre of your curriculum. You are right to look now to embed creative practices into the curriculum teaching permanently. Your planned new partnerships and Collaborations with other schools and organisations will support this and offer further CPD opportunities. In taking these forward, it will be exciting to explore ways in which Equality, Diversity and Inclusion can be further incorporated into your arts provision within and beyond the curriculum. We look forward greatly to hearing where your journey takes you next.

We’ll continue to work hard at developing and strengthening our work as an Artsmark school and are excited to see where this will lead us.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to create, compose, and perform, as well as to visit, experience, participate in and review extraordinary work.

Managed by Arts Council England, Artsmark is a national award scheme which recognises schools with a high provision in the arts. The scheme encourages schools to consider the opportunities they offer in art, dance, drama and music. By gaining an Artsmark, a school shows its commitment to the wider development of young people and teachers and to raising the profile of the arts in the school.

Artsmark aims to develop arts and culture based activity across the school in order to encompass an enriched and inclusive curriculum where the arts are embedded into a broader school strategy.

There are 7 key principles within Arts Mark which include:

  • Striving for excellence and innovation
  • Being exciting, inspiring and engaging
  • Ensuring a positive and inclusive experience
  • Actively involving young people
  • Enabling personal progression
  • Developing belonging and ownership

We’ll be adding to this section of the website with updates on what we are doing in our Artsmark journey, so make sure to check in regularly!
