SEND Unit for Pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Opening September 2026
We are pleased to announce that our school will be opening a new specialist SEND unit for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in September 2026.
The unit will provide a structured, supportive environment for children with ASD, enabling them to develop communication, emotional regulation, independence, and learning skills while being part of our wider school community.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the Governing Body of Wormholt Park Primary School are currently consulting on plans to establish a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Unit for pupils with autism, with a planned opening date of 1 September 2026.
This will be a 20-place specialist provision for children from Nursery to Year 6 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and need additional support with learning, communication, sensory needs and emotional regulation.
We are proposing a new SEN Unit to meet the growing need for specialist autism support in H&F. The borough’s Special School Organisation Plan shows a significant increase in demand for local autism places over the coming years, particularly in primary settings. Establishing this Unit will allow more children to access the right support close to home, reducing the need for long journeys to schools outside the borough and giving families better choice within their community.
The Unit will provide a calm, well structured environment with specially trained staff, smaller class groups and access to on site therapies. Adapted classrooms, a sensory room, improved acoustics and dedicated outdoor spaces will help meet pupils’ social, communication and sensory needs. Children will benefit from specialist provision while remaining part of the wider school community, with opportunities to join mainstream activities when appropriate.
There will be an event for parents and carers at the school on Wednesday 18 March 2026 at 09:00 am to discuss the proposal.
The consultation period runs from Wednesday 4 March 2026 to Wednesday 15 April 2026. Please note that the school Easter holiday (30 March to 12 April 2026) is not included in the consultation period.
